A few little newbies

So after eventually finding a flat for next year I've been on a little shopping spree to try and "spruce up" the place a bit.

We found a nice light brown duvet set from ikea but thought the space still needed a bit of colour. I would have picked pink but forcing my boy to sleep in pink would be like forcing him to eat meat (hes vege) just plain cruel.

So i picked blue. To be honest because its satin it still pretty feminine so win win.

I brought this cute little bedside lamp from dunelm mill, £16 aswell. Bargain. 

After convincing my boy that a star wars themed bathroom really wasn't the look i was hoping for, i found this little beauty. Im not really the biggest novelty shower curtain fan, and to be honest as a bath girl myself there a bit superfluous to me, however this one did make me smile.

So teamed with some simple black bath mats and accessories, i think it might look quite cute.    

This is a random cushion i brought. I love it so i just had to show it off, before i lose it behind the sofa.

Table

So. After discovering that summer without a single sign of summer weather is on the whole pretty dull, i decided to do something creative.

By creative i mean something that doesn't involve Jeremy Kyle or playing on the Wii for the entirety of my day, which so far is how my "summer" has been spent.

My boyfriend and i are moving in together in September, and with the prospect of being forced to pay X amount of money for a flat that will probably have the worst furniture imaginable, i decided to make a table. 

Im not quite sure why a table, probably because anything that involved making more than a box with a piece of wood on top would have stretched my already summer comatose brain.

I spent about a day making all my design on Inkscape, which is I note an incredible easy programme to use and now one of my favourites. Then i hopped over to Manchester to get it Lazercut on MDF i had already brought and cut out to scale. Glued if together and painted it, about a hundred times.

However for my first Georgie made piece of furniture i am pretty proud of it.

My Work

As this is my blog i feel i should showcase some of my own conceptual work.

For my final undergraduate Interior Design project i decided to create a nursery and after-school centre for children suffering from dyslexia and dyspraxia.

I am a strong believer in providing children with a space where there disabilities are not a hindrance, and each aspect of the design enables the child to grow and improve. This is my final outcome.

Main Auditorium, with view of Gross movement room, reception desk and staircase up to first floor. The green padded wall along the staircase gives the children a means of venting their frustration in a safe and manageable way.

No Pink

So i have a problem. My boyfriend doesn't like pink. This usually wouldn't factor into a problem, however as we are moving into a flat together in September and i am not allowed any pink, i am concerned. 

I need to created a a space that is still feminine yet not using pink. If i fool him by saying i'm using blue in our bedroom maybe i can get away with this.

Or this, my boy likes green so this may be a possibility.

Grey is starting to grow on me and with certain changes to this room. Pictures and Bed linen. I think i could be quite content nodding off in this room.

One thing i am absolutely going to insist on though is a picture frame wall.

There by an graphic designer/entrepreneur called Jen Ramos i found her while doing a little Blog stalking and absolutely love her paintings. They're so simple yet the tone and contrast in each is beautiful!

Thai Treat

My boyfriend and i recently went to a new Thai restaurant to celebrate the end of student life as we know it and becoming full functional graduates, hopefully. As-well as staring loving into his eyes, through the course of the meal, i found myself gazing admirably around at my surroundings especially the bronze coated authentic nickel engraved cutlery we were supplied with. This restaurant had definitely done its research and really thought about creating a space where following dining you would feel perfectly at ease walking out onto phang nga bay and continuing your evening with a blue elephant Bangkok cocktail. Not stepping out onto a miserable grey pavement surrounded by pre-18 girls tottering about on their heels trying to get into the local pubs as we did. Yuck.

Along with the cutlery, beautiful wooden carved furniture and decorative panels lined the space.  I remember visiting a workshop in Thailand a few years ago and actually seeing the wood carving in process. I undoubtedly found the process and final outcome beautiful and interesting but was concerned that carved wood furniture, if put in the wrong space, may seem outdated and misunderstood. I was proved wrong the inclusion of a vast number of wooden carvings along with the occasional sporadically placed happy Buddha, created the perfect environment for experiencing a tasty Thai treat!

Pink!

I hate to live up to the blonde typecast. But i am a girl who likes pink, i cant help it every-time i enter a shop i have a penchant to veer towards anything pink. Baby pink to be more precise. This excludes clothes however for some reason i find pink clothing on a blonde rather crass. Odd.

So these images do something for the young girl in me, the designer in me however is more concerned with the use of pink in the space, to create an atmosphere that is feminine but yet not overpoweringly so.

This image however is very girly. It is the type of room i would imagine walking into if Cath Kidston was designing a house for Mandy Moore. light, innocent and terribly feminine. The main thing i love about this image is the flower arrangement, Im usually a fan of pink lilies however these flowers which i believe are peonies? give the room a bit of organised sophistication to a feminine space. As tea roses in a 5th Avenue apartment overlooking central park would add a feminine touch to an already organised and sophisticated space.

I love this room, the honesty of using exposed brick although painted, and the faux stones on the floor make this a definite contender for my dream bathroom. A very sexually secure Metrosexual man may be able to overpass the pink, to consider the beauty and basic honesty of the room. It may not be such a big deal storing regaine and razors in a pink cupboard. But probably not.

This breakfast room would be perfect for the mad hatters tea party, if Alice was pouring tea from a Wedgwood cuckoo tea set and using Rob Ryan doilies. The 13 year old me would definitely have gotten up for breakfast before school if i was eating it in this room!

This room is a bit OTT, but i love the bed it reminds me of a female Stephen Fry. I could definitely imagine reading for hours in this bed. Jane Austin of course.
